Preventive Dental Care
Preventive care includes dental exams, x-rays and dental cleanings. Our office places great emphasis on this aspect of dentistry. Completing regular check-ups and oral prophylaxis, aided by maintaining healthy eating habits and quality home care, will ensure that you keep a healthy smile. We recommend that patients make an initial appointment for a complete oral examination and x-rays. This will let you and the dentist know the state of your oral health.
Sealants
Usually applied as a child's permanent teeth erupt, sealants protect the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. Additionally, adult molars can also be sealed, as long as a tooth does not show evidence of decay. Sealants that we use on both children and adults have been very successful in discouraging decay.
Fluoride Treatments
Fluoride is the most effective agent available to help prevent tooth decay. It is a mineral that is naturally present in varying amounts in almost all foods and water supplies. The benefits of fluoride have been well known for over 50 years and are supported by many health and professional organizations.
Although most people receive fluoride from food and water, sometimes it is not enough to help prevent decay. Your dentist or dental hygienist may recommend the use of home and/or professional fluoride treatments for the following reasons:
• Deep pits and fissures on the chewing surfaces of teeth.
• Exposed and sensitive root surfaces.
• Fair to poor oral hygiene habits.
• Frequent sugar and carbohydrate intake.
• Inadequate exposure to fluorides.
• Inadequate saliva flow due to medical conditions, medical treatments or medications.
• Recent history of dental decay.
Periodontics (gum disease)
Periodontal or “gum” cleanings are used to treat gum disease. Gum disease is caused by heavy plaque and tartar buildup. Over time, plaque causes gums to become inflamed and bleed easily, a condition called gingivitis. Untreated, gingivitis can turn into more severe periodontal disease. This disease involves the supporting bone, causing bone loss and may result in the gums receding from the teeth. Painful pockets of disease can destroy bones, gums and mouth tissue. This is a serious and very painful condition that our dentists can treat with scaling and/or root planing. If the periodontal disease has already damaged deeper tissue, periodontal corrective surgery, such as bone graft or soft tissue graft, may be required.
Implants
If you struggle with uncomfortable dentures or a retainer with false teeth, dental implants could give your smile a second chance. Implants are small titanium posts that are surgically positioned within the jawbone then topped with a natural looking restoration to replace one or multiple missing teeth. Implants can also improve the fit, function and stability of dentures.
Fillings
Toothaches, infection and tooth loss can all be caused by cavities. Treating cavities early prevents unnecessary pain and expense. Cavities are holes in your teeth formed by decay. When you have a cavity, we’ll remove the decay, clean the tooth, and add a filling to make your tooth pain-free.
Porcelain Restorations
Porcelain Crowns are a restoration that covers, or caps a tooth to restore it to its normal shape and size. Its purpose is to strengthen or improve the appearance of a tooth.
Cosmetic Restorations
Our team offers a variety of subtle yet noticeable cosmetic dentistry treatments that can enhance your look – sometimes it doesn’t take much to feel MUCH better about your smile! There are also more significant and dramatic treatment procedures and combinations of procedures, often called “smile makeovers,” that can give you the smile of your dreams.
Root Canals
Every tooth has at least one root. A large molar in the back of the mouth can have up to four roots. An abscess can form at a tooth’s root, due to a deep cavity, causing inflammation and pain. When this happens, our dentists clean out the canals of the affected tooth, treat the abscess, fill the canal with gutta percha (a rubber-like material), finish with a filling and cap the tooth with a new crown so that it won’t break.
Crowns/Caps
A dental crown is a cap put over a tooth to strengthen it and make it look better. If you’ve lost part of a crown, sustained a tooth fracture, or if your dentist feels it necessary, we will prepare the tooth, and fit you with a new crown.
Inlays/Onlays/Veneers
Veneers are thin, translucent shells bonded to the front of teeth. Usually customized from porcelain, they are durable, stain-resistant, and natural in appearance. Veneers conceal broken, chipped, discolored, and misshapen teeth, and provide an attractive and natural-looking smile in a minimal number of visits.
Bridgework
Bridges are made to replace missing teeth. They can replace one or multiple teeth next to each other. Unlike partial dentures, a bridge is permanently set in your mouth.
Dentures
Dentures have been used for centuries to replace missing teeth. If you have missing teeth and need dentures for the first time, we can make a quality set of full or partial dentures just for you.
Whitening
Teeth naturally became darker with age, but foods and drinks are also contributors. Professional cleaning helps remove stains and keep teeth white; additionally, safe bleaching options can help remove stains and considerably lighten tooth color.
